Vitamin D
Spruce is high in Vitamin D. Benefits of Vitamin D include supporting healthy bones, a strong immune system, calcium absorption and much more.Natural and healthy hydration!

Vitamins are important to ensure our body stays healthy and are considered essential nutrients. Essential nutrients are ones that cannot be synthesised by the body and, therefore, must be supplied from foods and/or supplements.
WHAT IS VITAMIN D
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin naturally present in a limited number of food. Vitamin D comes in two main forms: Vitamin D2 and Vitamin D3. D3 is derived from animals, while D2 is derived from plants. Spruce contains D2, meaning Spruce is vegan, and one of the few vegan-friendly Vitamin D drinks on the market.
Vitamin D is also the only vitamin that can be created in the body on its own. It is produced when sunlight hits our skin, triggering Vitamin D synthesis. This is why Vitamin D is often referred to as the “sunshine vitamin”.

Spruce is high in Vitamin D and the benefits are incredibly far reaching. Perhaps the best known benefit of Vitamin D is its role in promoting calcium absorption, and therefore facilitating the health, growth and development of bones and teeth (particularly in children). Vitamin D also supports a healthy immune system and protection from infection. This is why Vitamin D became a hot topic during the Covid pandemic and the NHS issued guidance on recommended intake.
Key benefits of Vitamin D:
- Promoting calcium absorption
- Facilitating growth and development of bones
- Facilitating growth and development of teeth
- Supporting a healthy immune system and protection from infection
- Serves as a natural inflammatory
- Muscle generation and maintenance
- Supports energy-yielding metabolism

Vitamin D is one of the most important vitamins for people of all ages and we are very pleased to include it in our all flavours; we hope you enjoy staying hydrated and healthy with spruce. And we encourage you to enjoy spruce alongside a healthy and balanced diet.
Sources of Vitamin D
Vitamin D is naturally found in egg yolk, oily fish, meat and mushrooms. However, these foods contain low amounts and our body’s main source of Vitamin D is through direct sunlight (UV).
In the UK, we can only make Vitamin D from sun exposure from April to September. During winter months the sunlight is not strong enough. However, we aren’t entirely out the woods in the summer months (especially in the UK!); a combination of weather, genetics and lifestyle, mean many of us still don’t make enough Vitamin D during the summer.
RECOMMENDEDDAILY ALLOWANCE
The RDA, or NRV (Nutritional Reference Value), for Vitamin D in adults is 5 mcg (micrograms) daily in the UK and EU. One made up Spruce contains 2 mcg (40% of NRV), meaning you can enjoy multiple Spruce drinks in a day.
With Vitamin D you can exceed the NRV, but don’t go crazy. NHS actually recommend 10 mcg during winter months, but do not recommend exceeding 100 mcg in a given day.
IU stands for International Unit and some countries and organisations use IU to articulate their recommended daily allowance. 1 mcg is equivalent to 40 IU, meaning the NRV in IU terms is 200 IU.
