Vitamin C
Spruce is a Vitamin C drink. Benefits of Vitamin C include maintaining healthy skin & tissue, supporting healthy bones, and playing an important role in boosting immunity and wound healing.
WHAT IS VITAMIN C?
Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin and often referred to as ascorbic acid. It is naturally present in several different types of food, as well as being a common dietary supplement. Humans (unlike most other animals) cannot produce Vitamin C endogenously (i.e. from within), so we have to add it to our diet.
Vitamin C deficiency is perhaps well known for causing scurvy, which is characterised by fatigue and fragility.

Spruce is high in Vitamin C and the benefits of Vitamin C are extensive. Vitamin C plays a very important role in wound healing, collagen synthesis, and maintaining healthy skin, blood vessels, tissue and bones. Vitamin C is also a natural antioxidant, helping prevent free radicals from damaging cells and increasing the risk of ageing-related diseases. Vitamin C also plays an important role in the immune function and helps boost immunity. Vitamin C can help boost immunity by aiding the production of white blood cells, which help protect the body from infection.
Key benefits of Vitamin C:
- Helps boost immunity and protection from infection
- Helps encourage wound healing
- Maintaining healthy skin and tissues
- Facilitating growth and development of bones
- Supports collagen synthesis
- Natural antioxidant
- Helps cognitive performance and well-being
- Supports energy-yielding metabolism

The risk of scurvy might be a lot lower now than it was for our naval forbearers in the 18th century, but the benefits of Vitamin C remain incredibly important. We are very pleased that spruce is a soft drink high in Vitamin C, and encourage you to enjoy spruce alongside a healthy and balanced diet.
Sources of Vitamin C
Vitamin C is naturally found in a wide range of fruits and vegetables. It is perhaps most well known for being present in citrus fruits such as oranges, as well as being available in strawberries, blackcurrants, peppers, broccoli, brussels sprouts and potatoes.
Of all the vitamins, Vitamin C is the most common and accessible. Nonetheless, it is an important foundation in good health, which is why we wanted to ensure Spruce is high in Vitamin C.

RECOMMENDEDDAILY ALLOWANCE
The RDA, or NRV (Nutritional Reference Value), for Vitamin C in adults is 80 mg (milligram) daily in the UK and EU. One made up Spruce contains 40 mg (50% of NRV), meaning you can enjoy multiple Spruce drinks in a day.
Vitamin C is water soluble, which means excess vitamins will pass through your urine. That being said, the NHS do not recommend exceeding 1,000 mg per day. It is always best to check with a doctor before taking a supplement, especially if you have an existing health condition, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
