Vitamin B12
Spruce is high in Vitamin B12. Benefits of Vitamin B12 include supporting a healthy nervous system, a strong immune system, cognitive well-being, mood, and much more.

Vitamin B refers to several different types of vitamins that, together, are known as the B-complex vitamins. There are eight B Vitamins in total: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9 and B12. Spruce contains a nutritionist-approved and professionally crafted mix of five B vitamins; we have selected these five to give you the optimum range of benefits.
WHAT IS VITAMIN B12?
Vitamin B12 is a water soluble vitamin and arguably the most well known of the B complex vitamins. Vitamin B12, also referred to as cobalamin, is well positioned for keeping our bodies in tip-top condition.
The body cannot create B12, (like the other B vitamins), so we have to make sure we get enough in our diet. B12 is not prevalent in plant and vegetables, so those following a vegan or vegetarian diet must be extra vigilant to ensure they’re getting enough.

Spruce is high in Vitamin B12, and B12 is held highly amongst vitamin connoisseurs. One of B12’s key functions is to support healthy DNA – B12 does this by influencing cell division and blood formation. B12 is also important for red blood cells production and can help prevent anaemia; being anaemic has symptoms such as fatigue and weakness. B12 is also vital for the nervous and immune system; B12 is  important for the formation and maintenance of the cell membrane and myelin sheaths, a protector of the nerves in the central nervous system and brain.
Key benefits of Vitamin B12:
- Vital for metabolism and reducing tiredness and fatigue
- Helps produce red blood cells and prevents anaemia
- Supports psychological functions, mood and cognitive well-being
- Supports the immune and nervous system
- Support our brains and can help prevent stress

It is well understood that B12 has a positive impact on psyche and cognitive well-being. Vitamin B12 is required to produce crucial neurotransmitters, and therefore influences mood, psyche and perceptions. As well as these impressive characteristics, B12 is a great metabolism booster and helps reduce tiredness and fatigue.
Sources of Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 is only found naturally in animal products, including fish, meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products. Some breakfast cereals and nutritional yeasts have been fortified with B12.
Given its occurrence in animal products, those with a vegan and vegetarian diet must ensure they are either consuming enough fortified foods, or propping up their diets with vegan friendly supplements – such as Spruce. This is why B12 was a must for Spruce in our quest for healthy and natural hydration.

RECOMMENDEDDAILY ALLOWANCE
The RDA, or NRV (Nutritional Reference Value), for Vitamin B12 in adults is 2.5 mcg (micrograms) daily in the UK and EU. One made up Spruce contains 1 mcg (40% of NRV), meaning you can enjoy multiple Spruce drinks in a day.
Vitamin B12 is water soluble, which means excess vitamins will pass through in your urine. That being said, the medical profession advise a sensible upper limit of 100 mcg a day. It is always best to check with a doctor before taking a supplement, especially if you have an existing health condition, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
